The android launcher can be seen as the "theme engine" of the android device. At least it gives you a unique user interface.
The stock (built-in) launchers are most times below expectations and "not good enough". Hence you tend to go for a new launcher in the android market. Statistics have shown that more than 70 While some of them are absolutely free, others may have either a premium version or some premium features.
While going for a new launcher, obviously you have some certain features in mind which you are looking out for.

  • etc...
There are so many launchers out there in the android market. While some of them are quite old in the game, most are the generation launchers. But it is important to note that it is not a measure of "how long" but that of "how well".

Among the popular Launchers include, but not limited to, in no particular order:
  • NOVA
  • GO
  • ADW
  • NEXT
  • TSF
  • APEX
  • SMART
  • LAUNCHER 8

MY FIRST TIME ON ANDROID

So now you've gotten for yourself an android device. Feels cool  right? One thing is certain, you are most likely going to stay awake the first night you got the phone. Or have you experienced that already?

So what was the first thing(s) you do after the purchase of your android?
What apps readily come to your mind to install into a fresh phone?

As for me, it's simple. I just root the device. That's the first thing I do. I'm not encouraging you to do same unless you know what you are doing and are willing to accept the consequences. This is because you immediately void your warranty and cannot return the phone if there's a system malfunction.

Next thing i do, restore my apps backup. I do this with Titanium Backup. I never like losing my apps, so i always take a backup from my former android device.

Next thing, sign in into my Gmail, restore my contacts and update some (necessary apps). I'd also install my antitheft software simultaneously. Security is paramount and i wouldn't want to lose my new device for any reason.

Now it's your turn to share your opinion. What are the first things you do when you get a new android smartphone? What apps are really indispensable to you which you are likely not going to miss?

But what if it was your first time on android? What did you do initially? How complicated was the android system? What were your impressions?

[GUIDE] PORT ROMS IN MINUTES EASILY WITHOUT PC

This is quite an easy guide on porting your own custom ROM. You don’t need a PC, except if you are required to port kernel.
With this UNIVERSAL PORT-ROM PATCH (U-PRP) by D’WapKingTM , porting and flashing of custom ROMS couldn’t be much easier.
All you need to do is to copy and replace the existing files and folders with the ones from your stock ROM.

NOTE:

1.       PLEASE ALWAYS LEAVE WITH YOU A SECOND COPY OF THE FILES (U-PRP & ROM) SO YOU CAN ALWAYS MAKE REFERENCES AND CORRECTIONS WHEN CONFUSED.

2.       KERNEL PORTING IS NECESSARY FOR LOLLIPOP ROMS, MAYBE NECESSARY FOR KITKAT and NOT NECESSARY FOR JELLY BEAN ROMS.

3.       THIS WORK SHALL NOT BE PIRATED AND REDISTRIBUTED UNLESS WITH NECESSARY PERMISSIONS FROM ME -  D’WAPKINGTM

Using file managers such as X-plore is recommended.  With X-plore, you don’t need to extract first before copying and replacing files/folders. To avoid errors, delete the file/folder each before replacing, otherwise you can still overwrite.

COPY ALL FILES AND FOLDERS NECESSARY FROM STOCK FOLDER TO PORT FOLDER (if you extracted the U-PRP) OR ZIP (if you didn’t extract).

[TUTORIAL] HOW TO DESIGN YOUR OWN CUSTOM THEMES FOR CM ROMS

This is a very great tool for designing your own CyanogenMod themes. You must be on CyanogenMod ROM to use this themes of course, and not stock ROM.
The beauty of Android is its Open-Source nature, where everyone is the boss of his own featur pack.
With CyanogenMod, Open-Source can be described as a big brother. This is because the team is made up of several developers around the world who work hard daily to integrate all the best features into a single ROM.

Google has tried its best to bring a whole lot of features to every of its Android versions [...HC, ICS,GB, JB, KK, LP, MM,...], but still some important features maybe lacking in the stock ROMS provided by your OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer), hence prompting you to go for Custom ROMS such as CyanogenMod.

Even as CyanogenMod ROMS and other CM-based ROMS such as Blisspop, Ressurection Remix, AICP, etc have done their best to integrate a lot of features into their ROMS, more 3rd party themes have evolved over the years which further tweak your CM-ROM to your taste.
But as humans, our quest for more is inevitable. You definitely wanna have things done your own way.

With the CM theme engine, you are able to change almost ALL the features of your ROM; from the Status bar to the Navigation bar and every other thing in-between including boot animation, font style, ringtones, colors, and much more.
However most of the 3rd party themes you find maybe lacking in one aspect or the other. Now, this is where customization comes in!

Much thanks to DARKION AVEY who have developed the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) themes app.
The app allows you to create and modify any CM theme straight from your android device. You get to test it and make necessary adjustments as you please.
BUT TAKE NOTE, YOU MUST NOT COMMERCIALIZE THE THEME. ANY GENERATED THEME MUST BE FREE IF YOU MUST SHARE IT.

HOW TO CREATE YOUR OWN CUSTOM THEME

2. Read the Terms and  Conditions Properly and agree to continue.

3. Click the "plus" button to start a project.

4. Give the project any name and Proceed to customize all features as you please. (You can start a brand new project or simply load an existing apk theme package installed in your device to modify).

5. When you are done, click finish icon (down right)

6. Click the apply button, wait to load, the install. Apply Theme to appreciate your handwork.

7. You can always re-edit the theme anytime you want.

[TUTORIALS] MORE ABOUT CUSTOM RECOVERIES AND ROMS

So you’ve rooted your phone, huh? I hope you know what you just did? You just gave yourself the power of life and death over your phone. Whereas you can easily terminate your phone with a single click, resurrecting the phone is not quite as easy.
To power your phone back to life requires a little advanced knowledge and tools. Don’t be scared, it’s understandable. You must ensure that you have a Custom Recovery installed and must have made a proper backup as soon as you root the device. You should keep this backup in at least two (2) different devices (maybe a PC) so as not to run any risk of damage or loss.
With the custom recovery, you’d be able to:

  • ·         Make backups
  • ·         Restore backups
  • ·         Flash zip files
  • ·         And many more.

THINGS YOU CAN FLASH
  • ·         ROMS
  • ·         Patches
  • ·         Fonts
  • ·         Updates
  • ·         And certainly  all flashable zip files.
WHAT TO DO WHEN FLASHING A ROM
In order to flash a (compatible) ROM successfully into your device, you need to make a thorough wipe of the:
  • ·         System
  • ·         Data
  • ·         Cache
  • ·         Dalvik cache
  • ·         Battery stats
While older ClockWorkMod Recoveries (CWMr) would require you to manually wipe these partitions, newer recoveries such as Philz would do all in a single custom wipe action.

DO I STILL NEED TO PERFORM ANY WIPES BEFORE FLASHING OTHER ZIP FILES?
No of course. You need not perform any wipes when flashing other zip files unless otherwise stated.

WHAT DANGERS DO I FACE AFTER FLASHING A FILE?
By rooting your phone initially, your warranty is immediately lost. Therefore there’s absolutely no warranty after rooting/flashing. If you flashed a custom ROM for example, you can always return back to your original stock (built-in) Operating System.
If your phone becomes unstable after any flash, simply revert back to your last stable ROM backup. That is the ultimate importance of custom recoveries.
If you have no recovery installed, then you'd be needing a thorough flash using a PC and the original downloaded firmware (more on that later)

HOW DO I GET A CUSTOM ROM FOR MY DEVICE?
Use google, it’d lead you straight to links that support your device. But what if you can’t find any link? That is no problem. All you need is the ROM of a device which runs the same processor as yours. You’ll need to download and port it manually.
PORT IT? HOW?
There are many tutorials on how to port ROMS. Follow this link and you are good to go (for MTK devices only).
